The Alecien Series
Book 1 – Veil of Life
Prologue
Fate, a word, a meaning, but essential to all things in life. Fate can lead those that follow good astray or it can bring constant darkness. All things have revolved around fate, but fate itself has also revolved around humans.
The meaning of the word is simple, it is the path that lies between now and death, but how one determines their own fate that is unknown. Humans believe that it brings loved ones together but is there something more too just becoming a family? Is there some unseen and hidden purpose that is meant for the meeting? Humans don’t believe it but mystics and magic users alike know it is true; there is always a hidden secret to a purpose, one that is unseen to normal people and is only revealed when the time is right.
People meet every day for a purpose that purpose is unknown until the right time comes, but we all know that the meeting was preceded by fate and that the meeting has hidden reason to it.
I don’t know exactly when it all began, but almost 200 years ago a war had broken out amongst the main races of Alecien. The werewolves claim the vampires attacked first, while the vampires claimed it was the wolves. Even with a few still alive from that time, no one knows the true reason the war had begun.
Some choose to avoid confrontation between the two races. However it was nearly impossible, both the shape shifters and shadow walkers were pulled into the bloody war.
As a race of nature the Shape shifters, typically kept to themselves. They were capable of taking the shape of their animal affinity, and were in tune with nature just as druids, fae, and werewolves were. As races of nature they grew crops, cared for the soil and nurtured the planet. However with the war raging on their peace was disrupted and they turned towards assisting the werewolves, in hopes of restoring the peace.
While the shadow walkers assisted the vampires, who were so like them. One living and one dead, this marked the only difference between the two races. Vampires were created and had cold blood and a still heart. While the shadow walkers were born and had warm blood and beating hearts. Both thrived on blood but the vampires required it for nourishment while the shadow walker’s used it for power.
During the war my father’s family was asked to mediate between the races. His elven family was pulled into the depths of this blood shed while the rest of the elves fled Alecien and moved onto new lands. While most of the tranquil races of Alecien left, my father’s grandfather tried to bring an end to the madness which had erupted in our land. However it was not meant to be and he was slayed by the vampires, along with most of his family. From this even the shadow walkers themselves retreated away from the vampires, taking up refuge in another land with the druids and elves.
So when Chaimh’s father escaped and took his father’s place, he had a notion. He wanted to bring the two warring races together. The shape sifters and werewolves agreed if any peace was to be held then some treaty would need to be in place to calm the tension. So as the remaining mediator, Aelon traveled between both the vampires land and the werewolves, trying desperately to come to some agreement.
Weeks became months and months became years, and years became decades, before finally a time was set to meet. The two races would meet on human land, neutral ground, before a mystic. My father was just a child when they met; he was not permitted to accompany his father to the first meeting which marked a shaky but allay end to the war.
The mystic who attended ensured both races were truthful and just. He imparted a plan, stating both races would hold a neutral meeting several times a year, to ensure the peace would remain. Each meeting would be held on human land, and my family would remain as their neutral ally and peace keeper for both races.  Aelon and his family would enforce kingdom laws which would ensure a standard of conduct each would follow to ensure the peace. In addition Aelon suggested that each race begin to help the other to ensure prosperity. So trade laws, merchant rule and land treaties were set into place.
After Aelon’s passing my father Chaimh took his place, as I took the place as his apprentice. While the mystic still visited now and again, my father kept his presence unknown. Being a mystic myself, and knowing that hardly any mystics remained on Alecien always made me wonder why. But knowing this also made me wonder why this one had stayed, or why I was left here.

Intro - Book 1 - Veil of Life

~I have received permission from my publisher to post this to get the word out. I am receiving a contract from my agent soon, and my book is in editing atm. Please spread the work with any other fantasy fans out there. This is a teen book. This is the full intro that leads into the book, hope you enjoy! =) I have tagged some of you who were interested long long ago when I first started this.~

The wind was cold and unusually dry. For the heat from the sun’s rays had died out the hour I think was around midnight for the moon was high in the sky. The sky tonight was strange, not the normal sky we know. As I walk further along a small dirt path, I realize I have wandered into a mysterious and lonely place. There is no sign of life here, only death and decay. I fathomed this because I sensed things, not people, watching as I went by, following my every move. I could also sense magic within this area, it was free magic, magic not controlled by anyone.
Then my trail is blocked, a stone lies along the paths width. At that moment I realize where I am, I have wandered into Alecien. I also remember that these stones are supposed to have a shimmering blue-hue to them but this one lay dark. As I get closer I realize why, the stone was broken, straight down the middle. The only way to break stones is by a sacrifice to the Death God Delron.
I push the thought of the broken stone from my mind and quickly walk around it, knowing I must leave this place before I too become a victim to the dead that lurk nearby. Broken stones are a gateway into Deaths realm and if one is broken that gateway is opened allowing the dead to walk freely in the area.
As I slowly circle the stone; the sound of crunching dirt beneath one’s feet is heard. I quickly hide not knowing whether man or beast was approaching. But as I peer around the broken stone I see a man standing a few feet away. The man was my father of the past he carried an imbued rune blade meant for killing the dead, but would he remember me since I have changed so much.
I quickly climb out from behind the rock and approached him. When he sees me he speaks.
“I am Chaimh, also known as the Keeper of the Gate, what are you doing out here wandering around in this land of waste and torment?...” Chaimh pauses for only a moment; a look of understanding crosses his face. “Wait it does not matter I know who you are, come with me, I have something to show you.”
Chaimh pauses for only a moment before a whistle escapes his lips, as he blows far off haunting sounds are heard, sounds of cracking ice. The sound echoes in the distance creating a trance like state of mind. Eventually the echo's fade and darkness engulfs me momentarily. I find myself in a small room with yet another stone, this one illuminating the room with its glow. The stone, sending out a call only magic users can hear, beckons me to touch it. I slowly lay my hands upon the stones warm surface.
“The stone feels sorry for you, because you do not understand the truth.” Chaimh says with a sad look upon his face.
With my hands still on the stone I ask what I am supposed to know and do. Suddenly the stone flares with a blue light engulfing the room and all in it, and then I hear a faint voice speak to me.
“You were brought here by Chaimh, to relive what you have missed. Your past was laid out long ago, a past in the world you are in now, Alecien. But your memories were robed from you by the ones that destroyed our world. You are here to set it right and stop the evil before it destroys this world fully and kills every world, along with it.”
“Every world?” I asked.
I knew this was not the only world, but why would the annihilation of Alecien result in the destruction of the rest? But the stone was quiet once more and the light in the room had faded. I realized I spoke my question out loud and Chaimh, once standing in the corner moved to stand beside me. He spoke instead.
“All will become clear once you are sent back to fix what went wrong. There is a catch though, you and I will have to relive the past once more and no one will remember what has happen here in future. If we fail there is no going back, and the changes made this time will be forever imprinted on this world. I will see you shortly; for I cannot answer any more questions.”
I started to protest out load but at that moment Chaimh casts a spell, a spell I recognize immediately. The room becomes very dark as he murmurs the ancient dragon spell from long ago, a spell that would erase memories and set the course of time to the casters behalf.
The spell was never to be tampered with, not even by the Keeper of the Gate. This was a forbidden spell from the dragon arts, the most powerful spell casters in the world. But before I could finish my thoughts about the dragons, and their kin, a pain echoed though my body, a pain that was like being ripped in two. All of a sudden all thought left my mind and I was taken, taken into the darkness of deaths sleep till I was to be born into the world.

Dream

The night was cool, as I went to sleep a haunting dream beckoned to be remembered, of a face unclear and a choice unmade. It draws me in.
The confusion of my mind has not cleared. The fog that had set in and administered a warning of time still presses against my soul. The conflict of the fog is unclear to me and the reason of its setting is puzzling. I was taken aback when the meadow had changed into a setting in which a fight was breaking out in. a man of a purpose dodges the fog and enters the cleared meadow attacking and nearly killing me before running off. The fog still gives no head to the events which unfold from with-in. darkness tries to consume me but a voice breaks through calling me back, a voice which warms me and yet sends chills threw my body. I shiver slightly at this, as if cold had grasped my soul and yet my soul burns with fire. The feeling thrills me, yet is confusing. Times running out they said, you must choose its beckons me, as my mind swirls in this thought, I am lifted up and carried to the base of a tree. I am set down, still in the arms of the man that had carried me, he holds me close as if not wanting to let go. The sensation of fire and cold rise inside, this, I think, troubles me and yet it’s a feeling I’ve yearned for, for so many years, the man bends down and gently brushes his lips across mine, the shivering increases and runs throughout my body and yet the fire consumes my very existence and soul. What is this feeling, I think, how could someone feel this way towards someone in which they don’t even know?
A man with a sword shows in the fog now, just as the man holding me lifts his head from the soft kiss. Then the voices speak once more and at that moment I realize my wounds were healed. The wind blows and the leaves rustle, you must choose for times almost up, which choice do you wish what decision have you made? I sit there puzzled; I still don’t understand what I must choose and why time would be running out. The man holding me pulls be closer towards him as the man from the fog approaches. Then a third man runs out from the left of the tree threw the fog, and once again I am being lifted into the air and carried towards the third man. I am handed over to him and the man which had saved me say, “Take her brother make sure she stays safe.” As I am carried off into the fog I try and protest but to no avail, my voice couldn’t make a sound, so I hold onto the third man slightly crying and praying for the man who saved me. As we start to disappear into the fog I glance back and see the two men run towards each other in fighting stances and attack one another, and then they disappear into a white mist. The voices once more talk to me, you have to discover your choose, you have to go to the truth and hold onto it, if you miss this chance you will never receive it again. This is your choice child choose well and go with your decision, either choice has a tragedy, yet each has its own purpose, and one holds your happiness, choose well……  then the voice fades.  I awaken in my room, with the feeling of this was not no normal dream, it had felt to real. But the people within it are unseen and unknown.

Fate

Fate, a word, a meaning, but essential to all things in life. Fate can lead those that follow evil astray or it can bring conciliation light. All things have revolved around fate, but fate itself has also revolved around humans. The meaning of the word is simple, it is the path that lies between now and death, but how one determines their own fate, which is unknown. Humans believe that it brings loved ones together but is they’re something more to just becoming a family? Is there some unseen and hidden purpose that is meant for the meeting? Humans don’t believe it but mystics and magic users alike know it is true; there is always a hidden secret to a purpose, one that is unseen to normal people and is only revealed when the time is right. People meet everyday for a purpose that purpose is unknown until the right time comes, but we all know that the meeting was preceded by fate and that the meeting has hidden reason to. One reason for meeting someone might be because you knew the person from your past. You see the present cannot live on with-out the past and the past cannot survive with-out hidden truth. Humanoid beings that have meet or associated with certain people of the past will meet once more in the future weather it’s for good or bad. The person thyself might change, but in many ways which are still unknown. We believe that humanoids change and grow as there soul does, but do they truly learn from their mistakes? Most never do, but there is a slight amount that travel through time in a bewildered state of mind, this changes the person making them realize their mistakes.
